Reincarnated-Goddess-Crossdressing-Boy-Bride-of-Statue Suffers Post-Nuptual Depression
15-yr-old Thinks He's Parvati
from Mid-Day
Bhubaneswar, India -
A minor boy who declared himself as the incarnation of Hindu goddess Parvati last month in Orissa is now facing peculiar problems.
He is being visited by crowds of believers, but is facing ostracism by his friends, family and villagers.
Fifteen-year-old Priya-brata Das, alias Bhabani, got "married" to an idol of Shiva on November 24, in Barabati village in the district of Balasore dressed in traditional Indian bridal wear.
His parents who organised the marriage function had also hosted a feast to his relatives friends and villagers.
Although according to Hindu tradition a bride has to stay in the home of her husband after marriage, Das is not staying in the house of Gadadhar Nayak, another resident of the same village who performed the role of the groom’s father.
He is back to his parents house. "Every day people visit me, touch my feet," said Das, who recently passed his Class X exam.
"But my friends and relatives did not accept me," he added.
Das, who dresses like a woman, cannot understand why people are so bothered by his actions and just wants to be left alone.
