B-16's Gay Ban 'Inevitable'

Vatican To Bar Gay Priests

from Telegraph

Homosexuals will be barred from becoming Roman Catholic priests under new rules soon to be released, the New York Times has reported. The new strict laws will affect even those who are celibate, a church official has said.

The new rules are believed to be announced by Pope Benedict XVI within two months.

The New York Times quoted an official with "authoritative knowledge of the new rules" as saying it is inevitable. He told the Times the ban would only apply to candidates for the priesthood, not to those already ordained.

The source added that the document did not represent any theological shift for the church, whose catechism considers homosexuality "objectively disordered."
