Teacher Loses Job After Refusing To Display American Flag

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut - A
dispute whether to display the American flag in the classroom has cost a teacher at a Catholic high school his job.
The teacher refused to hang the flag at Kolbe Cathedral High in Bridgeport because he said flags are about assertions of superiority and aggression [and] conflicted with his Catholic faith and strong parochial teaching beliefs.
Diocesesan officials say they don't discuss personnel matters but did say in a statement: "The diocese of Bridgeport has long believed that the American flag is an important fixture in its Catholic school classrooms."
He suggested a compromise, but school officials held firm to the policy, which he says ultimately cost him his job.
