Wow...that was the most interesting post I have seen today...
Reading this made me SO ANGRY. I was sat there trying to think what kind of person could say and write such a horrible thing........but then why should I be surprised..... grrr Makes me hate nearly all religions. (well just the stupid Biggoted ones).
Yeah, you can't really judge any religion by Fred Phelps. He may be the most hateful, vilest, ugliest, most despicable person that has ever lived. I'm just glad his ugly little cult is small (and largely his fucked-up family). Imagine what he could do if he actually had power? If that black heart of his became law, life and death? He'd make Hitler look like Cindy Brady. He's a monster.
Check out Sam Harris' book End of Faith. It's discussion on how any religious theory - based on fact and sustained by faith - is dangerous to society because it advocates ruling based entirely on subjectivity... not fact. Even bland tolerance to liberal religion creates a paradox where we allow rules to be made based on the morality of a mythical belief system. Roman gods have no more credibility than christian ones, yet we allow those ideas to be indoctrinated into our laws every day...
